Dual VHS Player/Recorder

VHS made television something you could control. A program didn't have to be watched when it aired, a movie could come home from the rental store, and a blank tape could hold hours of television behind a handwritten label. A dual-deck machine pushed that flexibility even further, putting two complete tape transports into a single piece of equipment.

Inside, videotape was an elaborate mechanical operation. Motors, heads, rollers and guides had to pull magnetic tape from the cassette, wrap it around a spinning head assembly and return it safely to the shell. With those mechanisms exposed, the complexity hiding behind the simple act of pressing Play becomes impossible to miss.
