Vinyl asks you to participate. Choose a record, remove it from the sleeve, place it on the platter and lower the stylus into the groove. Add headphones and the experience becomes surprisingly private—a large mechanical system producing sound for an audience of one.
This piece brings those two ends of the experience together: the machinery that reads the record and the headphones that deliver the result. Platter, tonearm and audio hardware make the path from a physical groove to a listener visible in a way modern digital playback rarely does.
