2010's RCA Portable DVD Player

For a generation of movie lovers, a portable DVD player meant entertainment could travel beyond the living room. A favorite movie no longer had to wait for the family television: a disc, a small screen, and a pair of headphones could turn a road trip, hotel room, or quiet afternoon into a personal screening. Before streaming made nearly every movie accessible on demand, carrying a DVD player meant choosing the films you wanted to bring along.

This RCA DRC 99392 portable DVD player recalls that in-between era of physical media and mobile entertainment. Its familiar controls and compact form preserve the character of a machine designed to take movies on the move. Reimagined in Record Red and Console White, it becomes a one-of-a-kind Electronic Afterlife artwork celebrating a time when entertainment still came on a disc.
