Keyboard
$295.00
Electronic keyboards promised something wonderfully ambitious: an entire collection of sounds sitting behind a row of keys. Piano, organ, synthesized tones and rhythms could all come from one compact machine, inviting experimentation even if the person sitting in front of it had never taken a music lesson.
The keyboard is also a perfect example of how electronics changed musical instruments. Beneath the familiar keys is a very different kind of instrument—switches, contacts, circuit boards and wiring translating a player's touch into electronic sound. Here, that hidden side of the keyboard gets equal billing with the keys themselves.
