1970's Olivetti Divisumma 18 Electronic Printing Calculator

Few calculators have ever looked quite like the Olivetti Divisumma 18. Introduced in the early 1970s, it came from a company famous for treating office machines as objects of design—not merely equipment to be hidden on a desk.

The Divisumma's rounded form and distinctive keyboard disguised a machine built to calculate and print its answers on paper. Opened up, that carefully designed exterior gives way to keys, mechanisms and electronics, creating a contrast between Italian industrial design and the complicated machinery required to make arithmetic happen.
